In 1942, a book that was written by Ginger's mother, Lela, was published... It was called:
The basic concept of the story, was that Ginger was not an Actress, but a Telephone Switchboard Operator who was actually a spy, and was involved with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941...
You can read more about that here:
Lela E. Rogers - "Ginger Rogers and The Riddle of the Scarlet Cloak" - Published in 1942
One of my favorite TV Shows in the late 1990s was called: "Sliders"...
It was about a young college student, Named Quinn Mallory, who was a genius and while he was working on trying to create an Anti-Gravity machine, he stumbled on a way to travel inter-dimensionally to parallel Earths. Each Earth's involved History being different than ours... A world where Germany won WWII, or a world where the Dinosaurs never experienced a mass extinction...
However, Quinn realized that travelling, or "SLIDING", to the worlds was very random, and to make sure he could get back home he built a timing device to return him safely back to OUR Earth, or "Earth Prime"..
Quinn invited his professor and his best friend to explore these other Earths, but they ended up on a Frozen World and had to leave it before the Timer had counted down to ZERO. Upon activating the timer early, the coordinates to "Earth Prime" were lost, and his friends found themselves randomly sliding to other Earth's and could not get back home...
For Five seasons, Quinn and his friends kept sliding, hoping that the next slide, might take them home...
When I found out about Mrs. Rogers book, I could not help but think about how she might have envisioned parallel Earths at least 53 years before the TV Show ever aired...
And at the very least, she might have been able to write some stories for the show... LOL!
Another Interesting Note...
The actor who played Quinn Mallory, was Jerry O'Connell. When Jerry was younger, he starred in the movie "Stand By Me", as the boy who buried the jar of pennies under his porch, and then couldn't find it... A comic book was later written about the Sliders, and they landed on "Stand By Me" world, and found the Jar of pennies and took them...
LOL!
Anyway, as we know, Ginger was engaged to Howard Hughes for a short while... And Mr. Hughes was into all things, that, today, we would call "tech"... I can just imagine our wonderful Miss Ginger Rogers finding an Inter-dimentional Device in her basement, created by Mr Hughes, and sliding to the world where she is a spy!
To make things a bit more interesting...
In 1941, Ginger starred in the movie Tom, Dick and Harry (1941) in which she also played... a Telephone Switchboard Operator!
It makes one wonder if that is where Lela got her idea from... or if it was just an amazing coincidence.
Or... Just Maybe... Miss Ginger Rogers, was somehow destined to be a "Telephone Switchboard Operator" in another life...
What if she was?
On another internet discussion forum called : IMDB v2.0: "Internet Media Discussion Boards" there is a current discussion going on called: "If famous people had different professions" and it discusses very similar ideas... although I think in jokingly ways...
Since tomorrow is Ginger's Birthday... I wanted to added to the discussion, by discussing Ginger's alternate profession... although I wanted it to be a bit more fun... So I modified it a bit, and here is what I said:
Ginger Rogers became a Telemarketer and sold fresh Ginger to housewives and restaurants over the phone in 1941...
LOL!
Happy Birthday Miss Rogers...
I still remember you!
