My Brief DVD & Film Short Review... of "A Night In A Dormitory" (1930)
Alpha Video presents SIX short pre-code comedy films on DVD-R, which comes in a standard DVD case...
SEE: A Night In A Dormitory (1930) Is On DVD!
The DVD Menu shows the DVD cover art on the left side, which lists the SIX short films that have been included on the DVD-R. On the right side of the DVD Menu there are two options: PLAY and CHAPTER SELECT. If PLAY is selected, the six short films will play back to back as one film, playing in order as listed on the DVD Cover Art. Each short film has been encoded as "Chapters". You can select a specific short film by selecting CHAPTER SELECT on the DVD Menu...
Alpha Video does present "A Night In A Dormitory" (1930) with a High Quality video transfer of the short film from an excellent film source... However, The film does have some minor typical "dust and scratches" which are expected from movies of that time period... With that said, it still looks & sounds great considering the film is from 1930.
Sadly, Alpha Video did not provide Subtitles.
The First Short Film on the list is:
"A Night In A Dormitory" (1930)
Ginger is listed first on the performance credits list on the Title Card, and is introduced in the film as "Miss Ginger Rogers"
At the age of 18, and at the beginning of her career, our "Little Star" doesn't have much to do in this short film, expect sing two songs which she does well.
From 0:14:23 - 0:17:02 Ginger sings: "Why Can't You Love That Way"
From 0:18:58 - 0:20:10 Ginger Sings: "I Love a Man in a Uniform"
I wouldn't say these are award winning performances, but one can definitely see she has potential to be a bigger star, which we all know she would become.
There is some question as if this was Ginger's first on screen appearance or her second on screen appearance. The theatrical release date indicates it was her second, but she may have filmed those scenes first, and then the film short was released later on...
Anyway, it was still enjoyable to see Miss Ginger Rogers performing at the very beginning of her career, and it is nice to be able to add another DVD to my Gingery Collection.
